ANAHEIM - The Tampa Bay Lightning came out flying from the start of the game. They got the early chances and had many shots on net. The Lightning would strike first by a nice redirection by Alex Killhorn. Tampa Bay would then go on a power play a few minutes later, but failed to convert. Chicago didn’t get a shot for nearly seven minutes as Tampa Bay used their speed to establish a good fore check. Chicago did make a push at the end of the period as Tampa Bay couldn’t get a shot on net for several minutes. Chicago got a power play late in the period, but failed to score. Tampa Bay led 1-0 after the first period. Shots were in favor of Tampa Bay 10-7.

The second period was penalty filled. Killorn was called for a high-sticking penalty just 28 seconds into the period. Tampa Bay was able to kill off the penalty, but then went short handed again. Steven Stamkos served a bench minor-too many men on ice penalty. The Lightning were able to again kill the penalty. A few minutes later Kris Versteeg ran into Ben Bishop and was called for goalie interference. The Lightning managed just one shot on net and couldn’t score. The Lightning led 1-0 after two periods. Shots favored Tampa Bay 8-6.

The third period started with both teams skating hard, but no shots early on. The Blackhawks then began to make a push getting the puck deep and established a good fore check. Tampa Bay was protecting the lead and played very defensive for the first half of the period. Ryan Callahan then had a great chance on a breakaway, but Corey Crawford made a great save. The Blackhawks came back with a point shot by Teuvo Teravainen and a screened Bishop couldn’t locate the puck and the game was tied. Teravainen then created a turnover and Antoine Vermette got the lose puck scoring to give the Blackhawks the lead. In the final minutes Tampa Bay pulled Bishop and made a push, but could not tie the game.
